REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's baseball team lost a three-game home series to Skyline over the weekend, winning the opener 5-2 and losing 6-3 and 4-3.

The Knights scored three in the bottom of the fourth highlighted by Payton Jeffries' two-run single. Kolby Button (2-0) got the win after striking out five, walking none and allowing two runs on eight hits in seven innings. Zac Billingsley got the two-inning save with two strikeouts, no runs and one hit allowed. Shasta's six hits were from six different players as Mikey Perrine, Jordan Akins and Cody Emmons each went 1 for 3 with a run. Luke Staton was 1 for 3 with an RBI and Justin Purdom scored a run.

Skyline scored a run in each of the first two innings and three in the fourth. Shasta tallied all three runs in the eighth but it wasn't enough. Akins (0-3) struck out four, walked three and allowed six runs – three earned – on four hits in seven innings to suffer the loss. Perrine was 1 for 3 with an RBI, Akins was 1 for 3 with a run, and Josh Taylor and Emmons each had a hit and scored a run.

The Knights never led in the game and scored twice in the bottom of the seventh on a fielder's choice by Nick Horsley and Perrine scored on a throwing error. Shasta managed four hits, one each from Mason Wood, Akins, Perrine and Keanu Mizuta. Jaden Gorge also scored a run. Cameron Falcon (0-2) struck out three, walked one and allowed three runs on five hits in five frames to take the loss.

Shasta is 2-6 on the year and plays four games this week, staring with a home game Tuesday against Yuba before traveling to play Canada College on a three-game series starting Thursday.
