GRIFFINS SPLIT AT EL CAMINO

GRIFFINS SPLIT AT EL CAMINO

Torrence — The Grossmont College women's volleyball team split a pair of four set decisions on Friday, Sept. 2 as they dropped a match to College of the Canyons and then rebounded to take down the host El Camino.

In the early match, the Griffins (1-2) won the first set 25-23. However, that would be the only set they would take as they fell 25-10, 25-18, 25-15 in the next three sets.

Against the host El Camino, the script was reversed as they dropped a 23-25 first set and then rallied off 25-19, 25-15 and 25-21 in the remaining sets.

The number 18 figured prominently for the Griffins on the day, Brooke Miller and Madi Bogle had 18 kills each. While Rylee Suggett and Lauren Dumo registering 18 digs a piece.  Setter Chelsee Trendler accumulated 68 assists in the two matches, and before you go reaching for the calculator no 68 is not divisible by 18.

Joanna Verdugo-Del Real and Dumo each had a pair of service aces.  The Griffins dealt 10 aces on the day.

The team will be back in action on Wednesday, September 7 when they travel to Fullerton to face the Hornets (2-2, with one match to go on Saturday, Sept. 3) with the match beginning at 6p.  Then the Griffins will return to the Griffin Arena for their 3-way next weekend against Moorpark and Mt. San Jacinto.
