Rams make long-awaited return to action with season-opener at Diablo Valley

PLEASANT HILL --- The City College of San Francisco baseball team made its return to the diamond for the first time since the COVID-shortened 2020 season as the Rams traveled to Diablo Valley College for their 2022 season opener on Friday. Unfortunately, CCSF will have to wait for its first victory after suffering a 6-3 loss to the Vikings.

The Rams held a narrow 3-2 lead after four innings. Shane Stanley came up clutch with a two-out, RBI-double that scored Tyler Aguiar in the third while Yusuf Sinada and Angel Perez both had run-scoring singles as part of another two-out San Francisco rally in the fourth.

But Diablo Valley (2-0) put together a big rally of its own, scoring four times in the bottom of the fifth for what proved to be the difference in the ball game.

CCSF totaled seven hits in the contest with Perez leading the way with his 2 for 4 effort at the plate. Ray Redman (1 for 4, 1 run) smacked a triple in the fourth inning.

Opening-day starter Owen Gallegos took the loss for the Rams, allowing five earned runs and eight hits over 4 1/3 innings. Nevan Lee closed out the contest, tossing 3 2/3 scoreless innings.

CCSF, now 0-1, returns to action on Tuesday (Feb. 1) at 2 p.m. when the Rams will play at De Anza College in a Coast Conference interdivision game.
