Baseball team puts up 20 runs in win at Mt. San Jacinto

Irvine Valley's baseball team kept rolling on Saturday, winning 20-15, at Mt. San Jacinto.

It was the team's fourth straight win and the most runs an IVC squad has scored in a game since it scored 20 in a 20-9 victory at Orange Coast on Apr. 21, 2018.

With the win on Saturday, Irvine Valley improved its record to 6-4 overall.

Irvine Valley has scored 36 runs in its last three games.

Sophomore third baseman Dante Faicchio, sophomore cather Collin Villegas, sophomore center fielder Joey Lapolla, sophomore first baseman Hank Schineller and sophomore shortstop Robert Haw each had big days for the Lasers.

Faicchio went 3 for 6 with a double, two RBI and four RBI, Villegas was 2 for 3 with a double, a walk and one RBI, Lapolla went 3 for 7 with a walk, two runs and two RBI, Schineller was 4 for 4 with two doubles, a walk, two runs and two RBI and Haw went 1 for 6 with two runs and three RBI for IVC, which finished with 20 hits as a team on the day.

Irvine Valley blew the game open in the fourth inning with seven runs to take a 11-3 lead.

The Lasers added five runs in the top of the seventh inning to make it 18-7.

Mt. San Jacinto scored eight runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to make the score closer.

Freshman righty Jacob Bixler earned the win. He pitched one inning (the bottom of the fifth) and allowed one run on one hit and two walks. Freshman lefty Martin Najera started the game for IVC and went four innings. He gave up three runs (none earned) on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

Irvine Valley plays again on Tuesday, traveling to San Bernardino Valley for a nonconference game at 2 p.m.
