Reserves lead the way in 77-51 victory

Andrea Morales had 16 points and six rebounds on Saturday and the SBCC bench came up big in a 77-51 win over Imperial Valley at the Antelope Valley Holiday Tournament in Lancaster.

The Vaqueros (4-9) advanced to Sunday's 1 p.m. consolation final vs. Barstow.

Mizhrua Bautista, a 5-2 sophomore guard, added 11 points and four rebounds for the Vaqueros, who used a 20-4 run to build a 28-12 lead with 6:08 to go in the first half.

The Vaquero bench outscored their counterparts 38-2. Vanity Akins poured in a season-high 11 points, Paige Nealey had 10 and Alyssa Cosio contributed six points and seven boards, helping the Vaqueros to a 49-36 rebound advantage.

Stella Dulay had seven points and two steals while Sylvia Hoover-Purter collected five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Andrea Morales hit 6-8 from the field and her twin sister Darla Morales tied her career high with nine rebounds.

Nancy Clark topped the Arabs (1-9) with 24 points and seven rebounds. SBCC hit 4-11 from 3-point range while IVC was 0-5.

"It was nice to get a win to get everyone in the game," said coach Sandrine Krul. Thirteen Vaqueros got in the game and 10 scored.

Santa Barbara led 33-22 at intermission and opened the second half on a 12-4 spurt. Victoria Jackson's basket extended the lead to 19 points (45-26) with 16:39 to play.
