Manhart's perfecto highlights OCC's sweep over Jaguars

CHULA VISTA -- Lindsey Manhart pitched a six-inning perfect game to lead the Orange Coast College softball team to an 8-0 win over Southwestern in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader sweep over the Jaguars.

Manhart faced the absolute minimum over six innings of work, allowing no runs on no hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. In just 56 pitches, the freshman righty threw an impressive 41 strikes. It is the first perfect game in OCC softball history in over two decades.

While Manhart was mowing down the Jags, Coast (4-2) picked up some solid offensive performances up and down the lineup. Emilie Lapena went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI, while Amaya White and Julia Douglass each had a hit, a run and an RBI. Taylor Andolsek and Nadia Perez also drove in two runs apiece as the Pirates scored six runs over the first two innings and never looked back.

In another run-ruled-shortened game, the Pirates cruised to an 11-1 win over the Jags in Game 2.

While it wasn't a perfect game, OCC starter Ashlee Kean did more than her share to preserve the Pirates' victory, holding the Jags to just one run on four hits with no walks and four strikeouts over five innings.

Hailey Pichardo went 3-for-4, including two doubles, with a run and two RBI, while Andolsek added a hit, two runs and three RBI from the top of the lineup. Lapena had another solid game at the plate with two hits, a run and two RBI.

OCC travels to Glendale College on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. matchup against the Vaqueros. Coast's next home game is set for Friday, Feb. 25 against Golden West, also at 2 p.m.
