COD Football skewers the Lancers in rain-soaked OT thriller, 34-27

COD (5-1; 1-0) had the game delayed and hour due to lightning and rain dumped off-and-on throughout, but the Roadrunners would knock off the Pasadena City Lancers (3-3; 0-1) in an overtime thriller, 34-27.

The game would be an exciting back and forth the entire contest and those who toughed out the wet conditions were rewarded for doing so. With the win, the Roadrunners knock off Pasadena City for the first time since 2011 and also reach a 5-1 record for the first time since 2011. Sophomore quarterback Cesar Vela (Rancho Mirage H.S.) literally did it all on the offensive side of the ball, not only hitting a career high, by tossing for 264 yards on 23 of 42 passing, but also grabbing a season best, 113 yards on the ground on 13 carries. In addition, he had a punt for 42. Freshman defensive back Charles Sills, Jr. (St. Louis (MO) Lutheran North) had a dynamite game in leading the way for the Roadrunners on the defensive side of the ball, grabbing 12 total tackles, 4 solo, including a forced fumble and four broken up passes.

The Roadrunners competed against the Pasadena City Lancers for the first time in program history in 1992 and have a 2-5 overall record against the Lancers. Desert has a 2-1 record at home in this series. The next home game for Desert is on Saturday, October 22nd at 6:00p against the Compton Tartars. The Roadrunners first played Compton in 2014 and have a 3-0 overall record against them. Desert holds a 1-0 record against the Tartars in Palm Desert.
