Las Positas moves to 2-0 win with over Cosumnes River

Las Positas College got goals from freshman McKenna Masinter (Dublin HS) and freshman Marisa Marquez (Granada HS) while sophomore goalkeeper Dariana Mihalache (College Park HS) posted six saves to help lead the Hawks women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over visiting Cosumnes River College on Tuesday in Livermore.

Mihalache earned her second shutout to start the season as LPC cruised to a 3-0 win on Friday in its season opener.

On Tuesday, Masinter knocked in what proved to be the game-winner in the 30th minute for the Hawks, her first goal of the season. Midway through the second half, Marquez notched her first goal as well, securing the victory by scoring in the 75th minute off the assist from freshman Tiffany Cheng (Castro Valley HS).

LPC head coach Andy Cumbo was pleased with his squad's effort.

"McKenna had a great goal and Marissa had a great game on both sides of the ball," said Cumbo. "Our backline and midfielders worked very hard to absorb the pressure of a very good attack. This was a well-deserved team win today, and great building block too.

"CRC is a well-coached and very good team. They are going to win a lot of games this year.  It was a fun game, very tight the whole way."

Las Positas will look to keep its unbeaten streak going on Thursday (Sep. 2) when the Hawks host Feather River College in a 4 p.m. non-conference game.
