In the final non-conference match of the season, the Marauders showed they are rounding into form with a dominant 9-0 victory over visiting Victor Valley College.
In doubles play, No. 1 Sydney Bush and Naia Smithley won 8-2. At No. 2, Arianett Avina and Emily Lopez played up one spot in the lineup and won 8-4. Also, playing up one spot at No. 3, Mary Williams and Katie Secaida won by default.
In singles play, Bush cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 1 spot, while No. 2 Smithley won 6-2, 6-0, and No. 3 Padilla won 6-1, 6-1. Moving up to No. 4, Mary Williams struggled early, falling behind 4-1, before coming back to win the first set 7-5 and the second 6-1. Also playing up in the lineup, No. 5 Avina and No. 6 Lopez won by default.
"It was a very solid performance from top to bottom. In almost every match, we took control early and didn't let up. Sydney played very well and, along with Naia, was a double-winner on the day. Mary had a little bit of trouble her first set of singles, but she found a rhythm, took the first, and powered through the second," said Coach Webb. "Anytime you can sweep the doubles and win every set in singles, you have played very well," he added.
The Marauders will wrap up regular season conference play with a home match against Glendale College on Tuesday, March 28th, at 2:00 PM.
