MiraCosta Survives and Advances to the Elite Eight

In a highly competitive match that went to the fifth game the MiraCosta women's volleyball team survived and earned their way into the CCCAA state championships.  The Spartans (#6) took on San Diego Mesa (#3) for the third time this season. 

MiraCosta snuck away with a win in the first game 27-25.  Mesa responded by winning the second game 25-20. After the Olympians tied the match up 1-1 MiraCosta took the third game 25-21. In the fourth game the Spartans lost focus and Mesa took advantage winning 25-14. 

The winner of the fifth game would win the match and a place in the CCCAA state championships. The game was extremely competitive with both teams wanting to move on.  In the end, MiraCosta won 15-13 and secured their place in the state championships on Dec 6-8 at Southwestern College.

The Spartans were led by sophomore outisde Hayley Torres with 23 kills, hitting .250.  Savannah So'oto added 11 kills. Leigha Malecha contributed seven kills hitting .353.

Defensively MiraCosta was anchored by libero Paola Peralta with 25 digs.  Torres, Felicity So'oto and Brooke Kuball each also had double digit digs to support Peralta.
