Women's Basketball Opens Up Conference Play With Two Road Wins

A perfect scenario is ahead for the hot Reedley College women's basketball team.

The Lady Tigers are part of a three-way tie for first place in the Central Valley Conference. Their next two games will be at home with the teams they are tied with.

On Saturday at 6 p.m., the 2-0 Tigers host the College of the Sequoias Giants. COS brings a 17-2 record and a 14-game winning streak into the matchup with the 10-7 Tigers. Reedley brings a four-game winning streak into the game.

The following Wednesday, Jan. 23, Merced brings what now is an 11-game winning streak into a 7 p.m. matchup with the Lady Tigers.

Reedley opened CVC action with a 55-44 road win over West Hills Lemoore on Jan. 9 before last Saturday's 93-59 road win at Taft. In each win, Reedley had two players record double-doubles.

Against West Hills, Xavia Barlow led the winners with 17 points. I'man Conley had 13 points and 13 rebounds while Stephanie Cervantes had 15 points and 11 rebounds. In the win over Taft, Reedley exploded for 26 fourth-quarter points after netting 21 in both the first and third quarters. The Tigers had five players score in double figures, led by Conley's 23 points and 15 rebounds. Barlow also had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Chloe Welch just missed a double-double with the 15 points and nine rebounds. The Dinuba duo of Sam Mendoza and Cervantes combined for 30 points with Cervantes netting 16 and Mendoza coming off the bench with 14.
