Owls End Weekend on High Note

San Diego, CA -- After opening up their 2012-2013 season with back to back losses, the Citrus College Men's Basketball team rebounded these past two days and ended their weekend on a high note. The Owls followed up yesterday's win against Grossmont College with another thumping defeating Cypress College 100-72 in the Consolation Championship Game of the 2012 Knight's Invitational.

Cypress kept the game close for the first half of the first half. The game would be tied, as late as the 10:33 mark in the first period when the contest was all knotted up at 21 points a piece. That's when the Owls ripped off a 20-5 run that jump started and capped off by sophomore Brent Watkins. By the time the first half ended the Owls led by 18 52-34.

In the second half, Citrus kept their foot on the gas. Cypress never got the Owls lead below double digits. Watkins would put the Owls at triple digits for the first time this year with 34 seconds to go, when he scored his 22nd and 23rd points with a game ending layup.

Sophomore Kerry Carter led the way with a career and game high 32 points. Freshman Terrell Todd continue to light up the scoreboard as added 24 points off the bench, while Watkins added a game high 11 boards to go with his 23 points. Freshman point guard Darius Middleton continued his strong start as well as he handed out eight assists, swiped four steals, and didn't turn over the ball once. Both Todd and Carter were named to the All-Tournament team.

With the win, Citrus improves to 2-2 on the year. The Owls will be off until after Thanksgiving when they host their annual Neil Edwards Classic. Citrus opens up the weekend by taking on East Los Angeles College on Friday afternoon at 1:00 PM.
