(Walnut, CA) For the first time since the 2016 season, the Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball team has reeled off five straight wins as they swept the visiting El Camino Warriors, 3-0, Friday, September 10 in the opening match of the South Coast Conference.

During the 2016 season, Mt. SAC reached a No. 16 ranking and recorded a seven-match winning streak.

The Mounties (6-2) have received their highest CCCAA state ranking for their recent success up to the No. 13 spot.

The 3-0 sweep is the fifth of the season for Mt. SAC and fourth at home.

"The team did a good job defending our home court," Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball coach Samantha Neely said. "I was proud of the consistency the team displayed against the Warriors. We played at our speed and executed the game plan well."

The Mounties, who defeated El Camino 25-21, 25-13, 25-20, were led by JJ Quarrels (9 Digs, 1 SA) and Riley DeGroot (9 D), with 11 and 9 kills, respectively.

Allison Whiteman (2 Digs) added six kills for Mt. SAC, while setter Ally Euston (6 D, SA) topped all players with 23 assists.

Diana Pelcastre (2 D) and Alicia Patterson (3 D) each had three service aces for the Mounties.

"Everyone on our roster that was healthy and able to play got in the match and contributed towards the win," Neely added. "It was awesome to see that anyone on our roster can step on the court when called and make a difference.

"This one was truly a team effort and the stats truly reflected that."

The Mounties, as a team, combined for 36 kills in the match.

"Taking down a team (El Camino) that has been historically at the top of the SCC, is a good feeling," Neely said. "With that said, we still have things to work on and are going to continue to improve on those things with each practice. It's a marathon, not a sprint."

Mt. SAC will travel to Compton College Wednesday, Sept. 15 for an SCC match.
