Mt. SAC hands Long Beach first loss of season, runs win streak to eight

(Long Beach, CA) Mt. SAC rolled into Long Beach on Tuesday riding a seven-game win streak to take on undefeated Long Beach in a South Coast Conference matchup. A few hours later, the Mounties (8-1, 3-0) headed home after handing the Vikings (9-1, 3-1) a 10-1 loss, their first of the season.

Mt. SAC struck first scoring a run in the second inning, three in the third, and one more in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead. Long Beach scored its lone run in the sixth only to see the Mounties respond with five more in the top of the seventh.

Top offensive performances for Mt. SAC included Gabby Estrada (2-for-3, 2 R), Jessika Trujillo (2-for-2, 2 RBI, 1 R, 2B), Vicky Gutierrez (1-for-2, RBI, 2 R, 2B), Ciara Granado (1-for-4, R, 2B), and Quinn De Avila (1-for-3, 2 RBI, 2B). Alyssa Guzman (1-for-1) drove in two runs with a triple for the Mounties, while teammate Charleen Macias (1-for-1) had two RBIs and scored a run. Adriana Ramirez (1-for-2, RBI, R) also provided an offensive spark for Mounties.

Alexia Silvas (3-0) pitched a complete game for the Mounties, struck out nine, allowed three hits, and surrendered an unearned run to remain unbeaten this season.

Mt. SAC's scheduled game at Compton on Wednesday, Feb. 20, has been postponed to a yet-to-be-determined date and time. The Mounties will host East Los Angeles (0-6, 0-2) in an SCC contest on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 5 p.m.
