Comets shutout Cubs in home opener

SAN MARCOS, CA (9/7/2021) -- Coming off a 3-3 tie against L.A Harbor College last week, the women's soccer team continued their season with a 1-0 shutout against L.A. City College on Tuesday afternoon.

Offering a strong first half, Palomar held consistent momentum keeping their ball hard set in point-scoring vicinity. It was proved effective when freshman Judith Belford (San Marcos) scored a goal in the 37th minute. Come second half, L.A. City College delivered a new fierceness to the game in an effort to match the score, which was shot down by an aggressive defense carried by Palomar.

Despite tenacious efforts by the Cubs, Comet goalkeepers freshman Sayra Gamboa (Mission Hills) and sophomore Savannah Wahrer (Ledyard) created an impressive barricade, securing a win for the Comets.

Palomar is now 1-0-1 and will be traveling Friday Sept. 10 to Mt. San Jacinto College for their 3rd match of the season. Match starts at 4 p.m.
