Women’s Tennis: Rio Hondo opens conference with 7-2 win at Mt. SAC

The impressive start to the 2018 women's tennis season continues for Rio Hondo College as the squad improved to 5-1 overall thanks to a 7-2 victory at Mt. San Antonio College in its South Coast Conference opener on Tuesday.

"This was our first conference match and we won pretty handily," said Rio Hondo head coach Karen Unger. "My No. 1 had really bad blisters and we had to sub out Ruth (Arciniega) at No. 2 doubles because of injury and insert Valerie Flores in for her first match. Despite the loss at No. 2 doubles, I thought they played pretty well."

Rio Hondo took five of six singles matches and won two of three doubles contests. Jackie Azepeitia was a 6-0, 6-0 straight-set winner at No. 3 while Cindy Lau surrendered just one point in a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5.
