Falcons overcome shaky start to beat Marin

The Folsom Lake baseball team got their first sub-par performance from a starting pitcher in 2020, yet managed to overcome it with a 10-4 win over College of Marin on Wednesday afternoon in Kentfield.  After the Falcons took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first - keyed by an rbi single by James Powers and a 2-run single by Troy Shields - the Mariners responded with three runs of their own in the home half of the first.  Falcon starter Gabe Emmett could not record an out, allowing three singles and two walks before being relieved by Skylar Wells.  The freshman lefty proceeded to pitch five-plus innings, allowing just one run on four hits while protecting the Falcons' lead.  Meanwhile, the Falcons'  3, 4, 5, and 6 hiitters - Catcher Alex Schroedersecond base James Powers, first base Troy Shields, and third base Trey Furrey - combined for 8 hits and each had 2 RBI.   Schroeder did the most damage with three hits, including a double - his fifth of the season - and a home run.

The win extended the Falcons' season-opening win streak to five, their finest start since the program began in 2015.  They will hope to add to that record when they host Gavilan College (Gilroy) for a two-game series this weekend, with Friday's game at 5:00 pm and Saturday at 12:00 noon.
