Pirate tennis continues to roll

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's tennis team has had a fantastic first half of the 2022 season and the fun continued last week at the OCC Tennis Complex with a pair of 7-2 wins over Saddleback and Bakersfield.

In the win over Saddleback, Coast (10-2 overall, 4-1 in the Orange Empire Conference), Coast won 5-of-6 singles matches, including a pair of three-set thrillers. Logan Koitka (6-4, 6-2), Madeleine Veltri (6-1, 6-2) and Jade Moreno (6-1, 6-1) made quick work of their opposition, but Ruth Salter (7-6, 4-6, 13-11) and Tiffany Tu (6-4, 5-7, 11-9) when deep into the evening to pull out their hard-fought victories over the Bobcats. In doubles play, Moreno/Salter (8-1) and Tu/Allison Dobrea (8-4) took care of business for Coast.

The very next day, Coast was back in action in a nonconference tilt with visiting Bakersfield and the result was exactly the same for the home team ... a 7-2 win.

Coast swept doubles play, with the teams of Koitka/Veltri (8-1), Moreno/Salter (8-5) and Tu/Diana Vu (8-5) earning victories. It was more of the same in singles play as Coast picked up four straight-set victories from Koitka (6-0, 6-0), Veltri (6-3, 6-2), Moreno (6-0, 6-0) and Tu (6-4, 6-4).

On Tuesday, Coast made it three straight wins and 10 victories in 12 matches with a 7-2 win at Fullerton College. Coast is currently in second place in the OEC standings, trailing undefeated Riverside (6-1 overall, 4-0 in OEC).

Coast will travel to Mt. San Antonio College for a nonconference matchup against the Mounties on Thursday, beginning at 2 p.m. OCC's next home contest will take place on Thursday, March 24 against the first-place Tigers, beginning at 2 p.m.
