The West Valley baseball team was unable to climb out of an 8-0 fifth-inning hole in a 13-5 Coast-Golden Gate loss to Mission Friday in Saratoga. A three-run 4th and a five-run 5th sent the Vikings (12-8, 1-2 Coast-Golden Gate) to their second straight conference loss and kept the Saints (11-8, 3-0) perfect atop the standings. Jake Pao continued to be an offensive highlight reel for West Valley, going 3-5 with three RBI. Hunter Schilperoort homered for the second straight game and Marco Salvetti was 2-4. Jared Espinosa took the loss, giving up seven hits and striking out two in 3 1/3 innings. For the Saints, Michael Denis picked up the win and Garrett McCarthy led a 13-hit attack with a 3-5, five RBI outing. The teams meet again Tuesday (3/13) at Mission. First pitch is 2:30pm.
