Taft College sophomore Sydney Taylor totaled 9 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Cougars in a 58-32 loss at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo on Friday. TC is still in search of its first win and is 0-3 this season.
Both teams came out rusty in the opening quarter as they combined to score just 14 points. Leading 9-5, Cuesta put the game away with 24 points in the second to go into halftime with a 33-13 advantage.
The Cougars played better in the third and were narrowly outscored 13-12 by Cuesta.
Sophomore Mercy Montgomery matched Taylor with 9 points while sophomore Krystal Zavala posted 8 points and 8 rebounds. Freshman Morgan Pulido also had a good game off the bench, grabbing 9 rebounds to go with 2 points and 2 steals.
Taft returns to action next week when it begins a two-game series against Bakersfield College. The Cougars host Bakersfield on Thursday (Mar. 18) at 3 p.m. and play at BC on Friday (Mar. 19) at 7 p.m. Thursday's home game can be live-streamed online at www.team1sports.com/TaftCA.
