Cheyenne Jankulovski scored 22 of her game-high 28 points in the second half on Thursday, leading Glendale to a 65-55 women's basketball win over SBCC in the opening round of the Lady Bulldog Classic at Hancock College.

Glendale (6-1), which shares the nickname of Vaqueros with SBCC, led 29-22 at the half. GCC outshot Santa Barbara 60.5% to 35.7% and dominated the backboards, 40-16. Glendale committed 27 turnovers compared to just 10 for SBCC.

Aaliyah Pauling had 10 points and five steals for Santa Barbara (6-2) and Jennae Mayberry added 10 points. Tatiana Ong and Sierra Cavaletto scored eight apiece off the bench.

The SBCC Vaqueros took a 39-37 lead on two Meaghan Moore free throws with 2:38 to go in the third, then Glendale took control with a 9-0 run for a 46-39 advantage. Santa Barbara got within five, 54-49, on a Moore jumper with four minutes left but couldn't get any closer.

"Jennae did an outstanding job of stopping their 6-2 post player," said coach Sandrine Krul. "She held her to 10 points. It was a hard-fought game and in big games, you have to execute. So onward and upward for tomorrow's game."

The Vaqueros will take on Santa Ana (3-6) in a consolation semifinal on Friday at 3 p.m. The Dons lost to Merritt 44-40 on Thursday.
