KNIGHTS LOSE SEASON-OPENING SERIES TO COSUMNES RIVER

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's baseball team won one of three games in the season-opening series against Cosumnes River College, splitting on the road with a 20-6 loss and 13-11 win before coming home to lose 17-5.

Cosumnes River 20, Shasta 6
Shasta committed eight errors in the game. The Knights gave up 10 runs in the first three innings and Cosumnes River tacked on seven more in the fifth. Alex Alvarez took the loss on the mound after giving up two earned runs on one hit in two innings. Keanu Mizuta was 2 for 3 with a home run, double and two RBIs, Shea Bowen was 1 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs and Drew Reynolds was 2 for 3 with a solo home run.

Shasta 13, Cosumnes River 11
The Knights blew the game open with a six-run sixth inning. Ryan Rudd got the win for Shasta, tossing 2.2 innings, striking out three, walking two and allowing two earned runs on four hits. Stephen Nelson was 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs, Bowen was 2 for 4 with five RBIs and two runs and AJ Davies was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs.

Cosumnes River 17, Shasta 5
Cosumnes River scored 14 runs across the third through sixth innings to win the three-game series against Shasta. The Knights scattered five hits with five different players. Davies was 1 for 3 with two RBIs and Reynolds hit a solo home run. Shasta cycled through seven pitchers and Peyton Russell took the loss, allowing three earned runs on four hits in two innings of relief.
