Women's Volleyball Swept by #10 Moorpark on Sophomore Night

The Cougars celebrated "Sophomore Night" for their veterans, Middle Blocker Meredith Donovan and Setter Serah Basham (pict), before playing #10 Moorpark for their final home game against the Western State Conference North Division.  The visiting Raiders and the host Cougars split the first eight points of the night, but Moorpark went on a 17-5 run to win the opener, 25-14.  The Cougars rallied in Game 2 and the two teams were knotted at 20 points, before Cuesta went up 22-20, but two timeouts later the Raiders were serving for game point at 24-22.  The Cougars held off for one more tally, but the Raiders took control of the match with the win, 25-23.  Moorpark kept rolling in Game 3 and reached game-point with a ten-point lead, 24-14.  The Cougars, facing elimination, rallied for four points to stave off elimination, before falling, 25-18.  It was Cuesta's second straight sweep against the Raiders, but the Cougars showed improvement with more points, 55-40, than in their first meeting.  Donovan and Outside Hitter Katey Cramer combined to lead the Cougars on offense with 17 kills in the three-set match, while Libero Summer Sebok led the defense with 17 digs.  The Cougars are 5-17 overall and 1-7 against the WSC-North

The Cuesta Spikers shall complete their WSC-North schedule on the road.  They play at Pierce next Friday (6 PM) and end division play at Ventura on October 9.  It has also been decided that the Cougars shall end their regular season on their home floor.  Cuesta hosts their WSC Inter-Division Crossover game on November 15 against South Division foe Citrus.  In September, the Owls swept the Cougars in a pre-conference game in Glendora but have won only three of their past ten matches.
