Sisters Alina and Alyssa Fletes made it to the semifinals of the PCAC pairs championship on Friday by getting a thrilling 3-2 win over Mesa and qualified for the Southern California regionals, which will be held at El Camino College on May 6 and 7.
The Fletes sisters were the only San Diego City pair to make it to the second day of competition at the PCAC championship tournament, which was held at Grossmont College, and they did not disappoint.
They dropped the first set to Mesa's 2s pair of Sophia Jarocz and Austia Mendiola and were down in the second set when Alyssa Fletes had to take an injury time out to get her injured shoulder treated, but she continued to play and City's No. 1 pair came back to force a third set.
That third set was close throughout, but the Knights pulled out an 18-16 win to advance to the semifinals.
The sisters were back on the court against MiraCosta's duo after a short break, but could only play one set as they had to forfeit due to Alyssa's injury.
This will be the second time at the SoCal regionals for Alina Fletes. She also qualified along with teammate Kareemah Hopkins during the last full season in 2019.
