Warriors Sweep Rio Hondo

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College scored a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-17) South Coast Conference victory over Rio Hondo Friday night at the ECC Gym Complex.

The Warriors (5-8, 5-1) scored their second straight sweep victory and third of the season as the defense was all over the court and held the Roadrunners (6-5, 3-2) to a sub-.100 attacking percentage.

Leafa Juarez led the charge with 14 kills on the night and Makaela Wilson added a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs while attacking at a .320 clip. Crystal Salgado set a new career-high with 22 digs to lead a defense that dug out 56 as a whole. She also led the team with three service aces. Jayden Zabala added 29 assists in the victory.

For the Roadrunners, Maria Bejines led the team with six kills and Nadine Oronoz added five in the loss as the team struggled offensively with a collective .056 hitting percentage.

The Warriors wrapped up the first half of conference play with a 5-1 record to sit in second place behind undefeated Mt. San Antonio. The second half of conference action begins on Wednesday night as the Warriors head to Pasadena for a 6 p.m. match.
