KNIGHTS WIN SEASON-OPENER OVER COSUMNES RIVER

COSUMNES RIVER, Calif. – The Shasta College baseball team won its season opener by beating Cosumnes River College 10-5 on Friday. The Knights followed up the weekend with a 6-2 loss to the same squad to split on the opening weekend.

Shasta 10, Cosumnes River 5
The Knights collected 15 hits in the game, jumping on the board with a run in four of the first five innings. Leadoff hitter Hayden Boyes went 3 for 6 with two RBIs, a run and a stolen base, Ethan Williams was 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run, Max Nebel was 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Giacomo Crosetti was 1 for 3 with a pair of runs and a pair of walks and AJ Davies was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and scored a run. Kaden Nicholes earned the win, tossing three innings of relief, recording three strikeouts and allowing one earned run on two hits.

Cosumnes River 6, Shasta 2
Shasta and Cosumnes River was tied at 2 through four innings but the Knights gave up a run in each of the final four frames to drop their first game of the season. Starting pitcher Nebel took the loss on the mound despite giving up one earned run on four hits in five innings. Shasta managed only two hits in the contest. Nebel was 1 for 4 with an RBI and Williams was 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored.

Shasta (1-1) plays at American River College on Thursday, at Sierra College on Friday and hosts American River Saturday for the home opener at 1 p.m.
