Offensive Explosion Leads to Weekend Sweeps

Led by an offensive explosion, the Cosumnes River Hawks (CRC) softball team swept Lassen College and Mendocino College at home over the weekend. On Friday, the Hawks posted 13-3 and 12-0 wins over Lassen, and beat Mendocino 11-0 and 23-1 on Saturday.

"We really hit the ball well this weekend.  Our pitchers kept us in command of the games, but our hitting was really outstanding this weekend," said head coach Kristy Schroeder.

Over the two games, CRC overwhelmed Lassen offensively knocking out 25 runs on 26 hits. In game one against Lassen, the Hawks were led by Tori Ochoa who went 2-3 with 3 RBI. Kalie Toy, Layla Towner, and Tamisha McBride all added two hits apiece. Dahdouh earned the win giving up only 4 hits and no earned runs. In game two, once again Ochoa, McBride, and Alina Fuentes paced CRC with 2 hits each. Gabi Lipski, Ochoa, and Fuentes all added two RBI as well. Trinity Jordan picked up the win in the circle throwing a complete game shutout.

It was more of the same in Saturday's match ups with Mendocino. The Hawks amassed a remarkable 33 hits leading to 34 runs. Towner led the way for CRC in Saturday's opener going 2-3 with 5 RBI. Toy and Johnson both had two hits as well. In the circle, Dahdouh and Tatiana Blas combined for a shutout—both striking out five. In game two, Lipsky led the Hawks going 4-5 with 4 RBI. Towner and Jordan both added three hits, while Emily Johnson hit her first home run of the year and finished 3-4 with 4 RBI. Tatiana Blas struck out eight over five innings to get the win.

"It was a good weekend, but we need to clean some things up defensively because we have a tough match-up with San Jose City College on Tuesday," added Schroeder.
