Porterville hammers Victor Valley for opening day sweep

The Porterville College softball team got its 2018 season started with a bang as the Pirates combined to score 38 runs and totaled 28 hits in a doubleheader sweep at Victor Valley College in Victorville on Saturday.

PC took game one by a final score of 18-1 and closed their afternoon with a 20-1 victory. Both contests lasted five innings each as the eight-run mercy rule was quickly put into effect.

Angel Geston and Chelsea Ramos both came up big for the Pirates at the plate. Geston made her presence felt in the opener as she went 3 for 4 with a double, 3 runs, and 4 RBI. And in the second game, Ramos smashed a pair of doubles on her way to 4 RBI. She went 3 for 5 and scored 3 runs. Ramos led PC with 7 RBI over the two games.

Emma Poll also had a big afternoon contest as she went 3 for 4 with a double, triple, and 4 RBI as well.

Porterville, now 2-0 overall, returns to action on Feb. 9 when the Pirates host Gavilan College of Gilroy in a non-conference doubleheader starting at noon.
