On a night when a celebratory vibe was in the air for the five sophomores playing their last regular season game in the Verdugo Gym,  the GCC Women's Basketball Team put an exclamation mark on the 2019-20 season with a heart stopping 51-48 win over Sant Monica Wednesday to clinch the 2020 WSC South Title for the second time in two years.

For the sophomores who have won 47 games in two years, it was fitting the one of their own, Zoe Rouse, would hit the game winning three pointer with 5.1 seconds left on an assist by Tess Oakley-Stilson from the corner in front of her team's bench. The shot broke a 48 all tie against a game Corsairs squad that enjoyed a 56-33 rebound advantage over the Lady Vaqs as both teams shot poorly, 29 percent from the field for Santa Monica and 28.8 for GCC.

With their school record 25th win against just two losses and 12-1 in WSC play, the Lady Vaqs will wrap up the regular Season at Citrus College Friday Feb. 21 at 5 pm and then await the state playoff seedings this weekend that could yield another home game for GCC based on their rankings of No. 5 in the state and tied for No. 3 in Southern California.
