Kevin Armstead runs all over Victor Valley in 34-30 Glendale win

Glendale College running back Kevin Armstead may have been wearing jersey number 21 Saturday Sept. 18 at Victor Valley College but he was nothing but a blur for the Vaqueros in a 34-30 win to improve to 1-1 this season. The victory was also the first for Interim Head Football Coach Tanner Farwell.
 
Armstead accounted for 227 yards and two touchdowns on the ground for the Vaqueros who led 28-20 after the first quarter and added one touchdown on two pass receptions for eight yards for a total of 235 yards of offense for Glendale, which accounted for 456 yards of total offense on the night.
 
Quarterback Nick Garcia passed for 209 yards and three touchdowns on 13 completions out of 23 attempts with two of those scoring tosses aimed at receiver Artis Cole who caught four balls for 72 yards and Nick Johnson added six catches for 72 yards. Bailey Audante rushed 11 times for 68 yards to aid the rush effort and Johnson returned one punt for 27 yards and had five kickoffs for 155 yards for an average of 31 yards per return.
 
Defensively, the Vaqs top four tacklers on the day combined for 41 tackles and put constant pressure on the Rams. registering several tackles for a loss and sacks. Richie Garcia led the effort with 11 tackles, three solo, four tackles for a loss, one sack and one forced fumble. Spencer Lauer added 11 tackles. two solo, Enrique Diaz had 10 tackles, four solo and Chuck Shull had nine tackles, five solo with five tackles for a loss and 1/2 sack.  
 
Glendale plays its third straight road game of the season Saturday Sept. 25 at 7 pm at College of the Desert with no fans being allowed at that game. The Vaqueros first home game will be Saturday Oct. 2 at 7pm against Santa Barbara City College at Sartoris Field.
