Grossmont, ranked fifth in the state, outlasted SBCC in the third set to complete a 3-0 women's volleyball win on Saturday at the Sports Pavilion. The scores were 25-15, 25-19, 27-25.

The Griffins (10-2) are ranked No. 5 in the state. The Vaqueros fell to 2-5.

Kenzie Garrison led Santa Barbara with her third double-double of the year, pounding 10 kills and making 10 digs. Kate Richardson, Jacque Ortegon and Jazz Hill had four kills apiece. Ortegon added nine digs and Lexi Michaelson had six digs and two aces.

The Vaqueros' hitting errors (8) were the second-lowest of the year and they posted their third-highest hitting percentage (.293).

"It was very nice to have our team hitting average improve," said coach Ed Gover. "We have three players hitting .285 or better. That's a sign we are heading in the right direction. It's time to work on the other aspects of the game."

Middle blocker Kate Richardson leads the hitters at .360 for the season and Grace Trocki is second at .299.

The Vaqueros will play another top-10 team on Wednesday when they travel to No. 9 Canyons at 6 p.m.
