(Torrance, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Beach Volleyball Team improved to 6-3 overall as they split two matches at El Camino College Friday (3/8).

The Mounties opened South Coast Conference action up by falling to El Camino, 4-1.  They then followed it up with a non-conference victory over Ventura, 3-2.

In addition, the Mounties also defeated Pasadena Club, 4-1 in an exhibition match.

Mt. SAC No. 1's Juliana Gomez/Samantha Neely kept their undefeated record intact for the season at 9-0 with wins over Ventura and El Camino. They defeated El Camino No. 1's in straight sets, but lost their first set of the year to Ventura.

They won their opening set, 21-11, fell in the second, 16-21 but came back to win 15-13 in the third. Their overall record is an amazing 18-1.

Losing for only the second time this season was Mt. SAC No. 5's Jocelyn Portillo/Brianda Valdez, 21-18, 21-19. Their overall record stands at 7-2.

In the second match of the day against Pasadena Club, Mt. SAC changed things up a bit with the pair of Shaiann Palos/Malia Carr in the No. 1 position and won 21-13, 21-17. That was followed by two more sweeps from the 2's, Lindsey Lane/Alysha Tullar (21-19, 21-10) and the 3's Macy Barnes/Jessica Morse (21-11, 21-8).

No. 4's Aya Al-Jurashi/Natalya Fajardo were the lone Mountie pair to lose, 21-14, 21-19. The No. 5's Portillo/Valdez won by forfeit.

Mt. SAC 4, Ventura 1

In the final match of the day, No. 1's Gomez and Neely won in three sets, but the No. 2's Carr/Palos and No. 4's Barnes/Morse both lost in three sets.

The only pair to sweep their sets in two was No. 5's Portillo/Valdez.

The set of the day came down to Mt. SAC No. 3's Lane/Tullar as they went into extra points in the third set for the win.

"Alysha (Tullar) and Lindsey (Lane) really dug deep to pull out the three-set win against Ventura," Mt. SAC Beach Volleyball coach Ali Carey-Oliver said. "That win helped propel us to finish strong and win the dual against VC."

With the set tied at one apiece and the third set headed to extra points, the Mounties pulled it out, 23-21 for the win.
