Baseball Bows Out of Playoffs, 8-1

Cuesta Baseball was eliminated from the 2022 CCCAA Playoffs after losing a second straight game to #10-seed El Camino in their 1st round, best-of-three series.  The Warriors outlasted the Cougars on Friday, after a 10-inning 15-14 victory, and, after an initial scare from Cuesta in the first inning, closed out the series with a win in Game 2, 8-1.  The 7th-seeded Cougars, in accordance with tournament rules, were the visiting team today and got right to work.  Shortstop Diego Murillo led off the game with a Triple and scored two batters later to give the Cougars an early lead.  Unfortunately, that was all for Cuesta's offense.  Cuesta collected two of their four hits in the first inning, meanwhile the Warriors took advantage of an error to score three unearned runs in the first and scored another pair on Theo Forshey's Home Run in the 3rd to chase Cuesta Starter Nico Martinez.  El Camino scored three more runs off the bullpen in the 4th inning to take an 8-1 lead and the teams traded zeros the rest of the way.  El Camino Starter Elijah Tolsma overcame a rough first inning to complete the game, while allowing only two more hits over the last eight innings of his gem.  Cuesta ends the season 25-17 overall and with a Western State Conference title, along with their 16th playoff season under Coach Bob Miller.  Miller ended his 20th season at Cuesta tied for the most career wins (460) and conference titles (9) in program history.  He has led the Cougars to the post-season in 16 of his 18 (non-Covid) seasons at the helm.  Miller is tied for third, across all sports, for the most wins at Cuesta College.

2022 All-Western State Conference and all-CCCAA Awards will be announced at the conclusion of the post-season.
