Tiger Football Wins Over Delta In Week 5

The Reedley College football team will take a 4-1 record into the start of Central Valley League play in Sacramento on Oct. 16.

Last Saturday, the Tigers had to wait out a 200-minute delay for poor air quality before holding off an improved but still winless San Joaquin Delta College squad 21-14 squad at the Reedley High School Stadium. It was the second Reedley win over the Mustangs this season.

Poor air quality caused the kickoff to be delayed. Because of the delay, the RC Homecoming festivities were postponed. The game was scheduled for 1 p.m. but kickoff was delayed until 4:20 p.m. and finished at 7:07 p.m.

Tiger head coach Rob Hartenfels thought that the delay made a difference in the game. "The boys were ready to go. You could tell that they were a little nervous in the first quarter. We were flat, being in the locker room for three hours. The AC didn't work. We were feeding them peanut butter and jelly. The offense started out slow."
He gave credit to the Tiger defense. 'They played their butts off.'' And that was with six defensive backs that were injured in the Laney loss. The bye will give a chance for those Tigers to get healthy.

Lazavier Moore led the way with 12 tackles which included seven solo, 2.5 for a loss, and Reedley's only sack of the day. Jacob Pearson had seven tackles and joined  Dante Lawson with an interception.

Then there was the quarterback situation. Josh Magana did the running and Jordan Solomon did the passing. 'It comes down to who is in rhythm," said the coach.
Solomon passed for 149 yards and ran for four while Magana for 31 and threw for 51 with his only completion going to Josh Higgins for the 51 yards.

But the offensive standout was running back to Tamicus Napier, who finished with 108 yds in 11 carries including a 43-yard touchdown run on Reedley's second play from scrimmage.
