Ventura shoots lights-out in 2nd half of 81-54 win over Vaqueros

SBCC took a 31-27 halftime lead over first-place Ventura on Saturday night in the Sports Pavilion. Then the Pirates went lights-out in the second half, making 21-of-25 shots (84.0%) to pull out an 81-54 men's basketball triumph.

Dayshone Henry led the Pirates (16-7, 7-0 WSC North) with 20 points. Jermaine Jordan added 14 points and nine rebounds.

Adrian Juilland-Johnson hit 8-13 shots and topped the Vaqueros (1-20, 0-7) with 20 points and three rebounds. Carlos Arevalo was 5-8 off the bench and added 10 points.

Ventura won the shooting battle, 55.7% to 42.9% and outrebounded the Vaqueros 35-23. SBCC made 50% of its second-half shots but only attempted 16 field goals. The Pirates were 0-3 on 3-pointers in the opening half and 4-8 in the second stanza. The Vaqueros made 5-16 from long distance.

The Vaqueros will play at Oxnard on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
