SBCC was held to a season-low five shots on Friday and came away with a 0-0 women's soccer tie at Canyons.

The Vaqueros (3-4-1) were outshot 12-5 and had only three shots on-goal. Canyons is 3-3-1.

"It was a competitive game with both teams battling to get the winning goal," said Vaquero coach John Sisterson. "We didn't have many chances but Molly Branigan struck a fierce free kick to the bottom corner in the first half, which the keeper did well to save.

"In the second half, Sean O'Brien broke through a crowd of players in the box and was brought down but the referee didn't give a PK. Sean played well and was a handful. Jessica Salas was tremendous on defense and everyone who played worked very hard to keep a clean sheet."

SBCC goalie Elizabeth Estrada (2-1-1) made five saves for her first shutout of the year.

The two-time defending WSC North champion Vaqueros will open conference play on Tuesday when Ventura comes to La Playa Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest.
