Sutton's Two Goals Lift Wolverines

Kevin Sutton capped off a wild second half with a goal in the 88th minute to lift the San Bernardino Valley College men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over San Diego City College.

It was the second goal of the afternoon for Sutton (Moreno Valley Valley View), who leads the Wolverines with four goals. He opened the scoring in the 72nd minute after receiving a through pass from Jorge Baranda (Fontana Kaiser), then cutting back to the middle to beat the goalkeeper to give SBVC a 1-0 lead.

But the Knights answered in the 78th minute after a defensive mistake left Enrique Moreno alone in front of an empty net after the ball bounced across the mouth of the SBVC goal.

Cristian Uruttia (Moreno Valley Valley View) put SBVC back in the league in the 82nd minute as he sailed in a free kick from about 35 yards out. San Diego City again tied it shortly after, as Dalton Kinney converted a penalty kick in the 84th minute.

The wild second half also included some chippy play, as seven cautions were handed out in the final 45 minutes, as both teams fought to take control of the game.

San Bernardino Valley takes to the road for its next three games, taking on Santiago Canyon, former conference opponent Southwestern, and Irvine Valley before returning home Sept. 20 to take on Citrus College at 4 p.m.
