Bobcats win opener at Chabot

Bobcats win opener at Chabot

The Saddleback women's tennis team opened the 2023 campaign with a 7-2 win at Chabot College on Saturday in Hayward, California.  It was the first win on opening day for the program since 2018.

Saddleback had two long days of travel and tennis but finished them off with an impressive win.  The Bobcats started by playing a number of doubles matches on Friday in the West Valley College Doubles Day and then concluded the week with a team match at Chabot College on Saturday.  It all turned out well, as the Bobcats showed great conditioning and depth in outdueling the Gladiators.

Saddleback won all three matched in doubles play to start the day, putting Chabot in a tough position heading into singles play.  Ellie Maruna and Brooke Buser won at No. 1 doubles while Sydney Grove and Deena Marzban combined to win at No. 2 doubles.   Emily West and Kavelle Tomaiko had the most dominating win in doubles play when they swept past their opponents at No. 3 doubles, 8-0.

Grove, West and Tomaiko (pictured L-to-R) would all end up winning twice on Saturday with victories in singles play later in the match.    Tomaiko had the easiest path to victory, cruising to a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.

Saddleback will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Rio Hondo College at the Saddleback Tennis Complex.  Match time is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
