Santa Ana Shuts Out SCC 6-0 in OEC Third Place Game to End the Season

SANTA ANA, Calif. - The Santa Ana Softball team finished the 2021 season with a record of 19-8, 18-6 after shutting out the Santiago Canyon Hawks (13-14, 13-13) 6-0 in the third place game of the Orange Empire Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon.

SAC benefitted from timely hits throughout its lineup starting in the nine spot with Cecilia Sanchez, who stayed hot with an RBI double to left center field to score Kayla Avina in the third.

A few batters later, fellow freshmen Shelby Macias and Jordan Westerfield took advantage of their opportunities with runners on as they hit back to back RBI singles, giving the Dons a 3-0 lead after three innings.

The freshmen duo struck again in the fifth inning as Macias drove in two runs on another single and Westerfield followed with a sacrifice fly to push the lead to six runs.

Santa Ana looked in control the whole game as Emily Rosas returned to form with a complete game shutout. The sophomore pitcher struck out three on her way to win number 14 of the year.

The Dons were happy to end the season on a high note and will begin focusing on the 2022 season where they hope to be the only team to end the season in the win column as the state returns to normalcy.
