SBVC Dominates Play, Wins Third Straight

The San Bernardino Valley College women's soccer team posted its second consecutive clean sheet Friday afternoon. A really clean sheet.

The Wolverines outshot visiting Norco College 34-0 en route to a 2-0 victory in an Inland Empire Athletic Conference matchup.

SBVC came out attacking, with Denae Verdine firing the first shot in the first 30 seconds of the game, and earning two corner kicks before five minutes had elapsed.

But it took until the 27th minute before the Wolverines could finally get on the board. The ball bounced around in the Norco penalty area, and popped out to Grecia Sanchez. She looped a shot into the top of the net for a 1-0 lead that SBVC would take into halftime.

The second half was more of the same, as SBVC pushed forward against the winless Mustangs. In the 77th minute, the Wolverines pushed the attack to the right wing, where Angelique Seckel made a run down the sideline. She sent a cross to the top of the box, where Emmely Alonso one-timed a volley past Norco goalkeeper Valerie Martinez for the game's second goal.

Martinez kept the Mustangs in the game, frustrating the SBVC offense with nine saves. Her defense also cleared two shots off the line to keep SBVC from opening a bigger lead.

SBVC goalkeeper Haley Weghorst got the victory, not facing any shots in the game.
