W. Basketball: Falcons open season with win over Grossmont

Starting their season facing Grossmont College at the San Diego Mesa Tournament on Friday, the Cerritos College women's basketball team posted a 65-42 win. The victory advances the Falcons (1-0) to the semi-finals, where they will face Rio Hondo College at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

After a close first half where Cerritos held a slight 24-19 lead, they pulled out in the second half and never looked back. Sophomore forward Diamond Roberts (Mayfair HS) led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points, while also pulling down five rebounds and posted four steals in the win. She was the lone player to score in double-figures, with the duo of sophomore forward Angela Pena (Huntington Park College Ready Academy HS) and sophomore guard Marissa Rendon (St. Paul HS) both added nine points.

Sophomore forward Deenesha Bee (Pioneer HS) hauled down a team-high nine rebounds, while Cerritos received 24 points and 21 rebounds off the bench. Freshman Nia Lateju (Norwalk HS) chipped in with six points and seven rebounds, while freshman Tache' King (Gahr HS) added six points and three assists.
