Men’s Tennis Snags Clutch Victory Over SBCC
After dropping their previous match, the Tigers looked to get back on track by traveling North to face off against the Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros. After a subpar doubles showing, Riverside rebounded to get the job done in singles leading to a 5-4 win.
The Tigers got off to a slow start by dropping their first two doubles matches, but sophomore Gleb Mityurin and freshman Chris Lee salvaged a win at the top spot by the final score of 8-4 leading into singles play.
Mityurin continued to swing a hot racket in singles play as he cruised to a two-set victory with scores reading 6-0, 6-2. Freshman Aurelien Arlot followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the second singles spot, while Lee worked to take a three-set victory at the fourth singles position. He dropped the first set, 6-7, but rallied back to win the final two at 7-5, 6-3. His win sealed the deal for the Tigers.
Sophomore Yan Lisboa capped Riverside's efforts with a two-set win in his first match of the season.
Riverside (2-1) will continue action at home on Tuesday, February 4 against San Diego Mesa at 2 p.m.
