Overtime loss snaps Chargers 9-game win streak

Cypress, CA- No. 12 Women's basketball (15-4, 4-1 OEC) lost in heartbreak fashion to No. 7 Irvine Valley (13-7, 3-5 OEC). Cypress fell in a back and forth overtime game, 77-63.

The Chargers came into the game on a 9-game win streak. Cypress started strong in the first quarter with a lead 12-10. The Lasers stepped it up in the second quarter with 18 points as the Chargers struggled to answer. Jessica Barrow kept Cypress in the game by scoring 7 points in the second quarter. Pressila Blanco hit a near half court 3-pointer at the buzzer to send Cypress into halftime down three. As the second half got started, Pressila Blanco kept the momentum going scoring 10 points in the period. The back and forth game came down to the last possession in the 4th quarter when the Chargers found themselves in a tie game, 58-58, with 21 seconds and possession of the ball. Blanco came up short on a three pointer as the game headed to overtime. Overtime was all Irvine Valley as they scored 19 points in the 5-minute period and won the hard fought battle.

Alison Nelson had a great showing, knocking down 7 mid-range jump shots in key situations all night. The Chargers ran out of gas, but their strong effort was something to be proud of. 

Up Next: The Chargers will look to get back on top Wednesday, January 29th, when they host Golden West. Tip off at Don Johnson court will be at 5PM.
