Mounties open SCC North Division play with win at L.A. Trade Tech

(Los Angeles, CA) Mt. SAC's Jade Hughes led all scorers with 21 points, as the Mounties cruised to a 76-60 win at Los Angeles Trade Tech (17-4, 0-1), to open South Coast Conference North Division play on Wednesday night.

Leading 17-13 after the first quarter, Mt. SAC (15-5, 1-0) went on a 10-2 run to start the second period and opened a 13 points lead (37-24), at the half.  Trailing by as many as 19 midway through the third, Trade Tech would get no closer than 11 the rest of the game.

Natalia Shpegel scored 15 points for the Mounties, while teammates Tiana Douglas and Aujanae Mayes added 12 and 10 points respectively, to round out the team's double-digit scoring. Remy Hare pitched in nine points in 14 minutes, coming off the bench for Mt. SAC. Mayes and Hughes led all players with seven rebounds each.

Machari Johnson and Cheyenne Givens led Trade Tech with 12 points each.

Mt. SAC outrebounded Trade Tech, 37-36, and dominated in points scored in the paint, 48-18.

In the most recent California Community College Sports Information Association poll, Trade Tech was ranked No. 5 and the Mounties No. 10.

Mt. SAC travels to Chaffey on Friday, Jan. 25, for an SCC North Division matchup at 7 p.m.
