PASADENA — The Grossmont College Griffins rode a strong fourth quarter to capture a 24-21 come from behind victory over Pasadena City College at Robinson Stadium to snap a three-game losing streak.

Grossmont (3-4, 1-1 American-Mountain) was balanced on offense as they threw 41 between the Griffins two Quarterbacks, and 41 rushing attempts between the four rushers. Pasadena City (3-4, 0-2 American-Mountain) was also balanced, with 25 and 25 passing and rushing respectfully.

PCC got on the board first as Ivan Ostry scored on a 72-yard pass from Joshua Andrade just 80 seconds into the game.

The first play from scrimmage was not a good sign for the Griffins as Elia Kirisimasi's pass was intercepted. However, the Griffin defense held their ground, and was helped by the Lancers as they were called for intentional grounding.

After both teams traded punts, the Griffins were on a positive drive before a couple of penalties thwarted the drive. The first quarter ended with the Lancers up a touchdown.

After Grossmont punted on the first play of the second quarter, Pasadena was forced to punt back to the Griffins. Kirisimasi began the drive incomplete, incomplete. But then found Keiyon Holloway for a 52-yard pass to get the ball down to the Pasadena three-yard line. After an encroachment penalty on the Lancers, Kirisimasi finished the drive with a one-yard touchdown run to tie the score up at 7-all.

Pasadena came right back however and scored another touchdown at the end of an eight-play, 90-yard drive that took just 3:42 off the clock to take a 14-7 lead.

That is how the first half ended.

Trenton Giles came in for the start of the second half.

After both teams traded punts, the Griffins would go on a five-play drive that resulted in a Keiyon Holloway three-yard touchdown run to tie the score at 14-all.

Grossmont recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, the problem is that the Griffins would return the favor on the third play of the drive as they fumbled it back to Pasadena.

After both teams punted, the Griffins opened the fourth quarter with a seven-play, 51-yard drive that was highlighted by a pair of Cleveland Ford III receptions. One was for 14 yards and the other for 19 yards. Giles would take the final eight yards via his feet. Jorge Aguilar would kick his third extra point of the game and took a 21-14 lead.

Pasadena would complete a 23-yard pass, but would then go sack, sack, incomplete pass, before a sub-par 27-yard punt.

Kirisimasi would return to lead the Griffins on the next drive that would ultimately result in a 27-yard Jorge Aguilar field goal and a 24-14 Griffin lead with only 3:28 left in the game.

Well, Ivan Ostry of Pasadena City started the scoring for the Lancers and were not done scoring. So, he took the kickoff back 100 yards for a touchdown and with the extra point pulled the Lancers within three points at 24-21.

As you would expect, the Lancers attempted to get the ball back with an onside kick. Grossmont's "hands team" was ready for this and recovered the kick at the Lancer 47. Six rushing plays, two Pasadena timeouts and a delay of game penalty on Grossmont killed the clock and secured the Griffins their third win of the season.

The Griffins will try to get back to even .500 with a victory at home against Victor Valley next week.
