A difficult 2019 season for the Rio Hondo College men's soccer team came to a end on Friday after the No. 8-seeded Roadrunners suffered a 2-1 loss to No. 7 Pasadena City College in the fifth-place game of the South Coast Conference Championship tournament in Torrance.

At the SCC tournament, the Roadrunners opened the event with a 3-0 loss to top-seeded Mt. San Antonio College and advanced with a 1-0 victory at Long Beach City College.

The Roadrunners fell behind early in Friday's contest, as the Lancers got a goal in the 25^th minute from Andres Velasquez. PCC held the 1-0 lead all the way until the 79^th minute. After a foul inside the box, Stefano Panebianco nailed converted a penalty kick goal to give the Roadrunners the equalizer.

But just moments before the final whistle, Pasadena got the game-winner in the fifth minute of added time as Martin Manzanilla headed in a cross pass from Favian Esparza.

Rio Hondo outshot Pasadena 15-11 in the contest but six saves by PCC goalkeeper Steven Sandoval proved to be the difference. Jafet Salgado was credited with one save in goal for the Roadrunners.

The Roadrunners snapped a seven-game winless streak with its 1-0 shutout over Long Beach in a second-round contest at LBCC on Tuesday. Jose Penaloza scored the contest's lone goal in the 65^th minute off the assist from Havier Zaragoza.

Salgado posted one save while the Rio Hondo defense also came up with a huge save at the goal line to deny the Vikings.

Rio Hondo had a difficult time in its contest against No. 1 nationally-ranked Mt. SAC in the tournament-opener last Friday. The Mounties went ahead 1-0 on a goal by Herminio Padilla in the 29^th minute and got second-half goals from Angel Santoyo (54^th) and Paul Inguez (56^th) to close out their win.

Salgado was credited with five saves in the loss.

Rio Hondo closed out the 2019 season with a 6-11-5 overall record and went 1-4-3 in South Coast Conference action. The Roadrunners will miss the Southern California Regional Playoffs for the first time since 2014.
