Trailing Evergreen Valley 1-0, the West Valley men's soccer team exploded for three straight goals in 12 minutes en route to a 3-2 win over the Hawks Friday at Dick Schwendinger Field.

After EVC's Cristian De La Cruz struck for a 14th-minute score, West Valley's Jack Murray blasted in a shot from the left side of the box off a Miguel Moreno feed for the equalizer. Leonardo Morales made it 2-1 two minutes later off assists from Oscar Avendano and Moreno. Moreno handed out his third helper ten minutes later, finding Ricardo Tovar in front of the Hawk goal for a 3-1 WVC advantage.

The West Valley lead would hold up until the Hawks (3-3-1) made it 3-2 in the 51st minute, and the final 40 minutes were a defensive battle.

Connor Faries stopped five Hawk shots to claim his fourth win of the year in goal. Moreno's three assists give him a team-high nine and 18 total points on the season.

The Vikings (4-3-0) head to Monterey Peninsula (0-7-0) Tuesday (9/27) for a 2:00pm game against the Lobos in the Coast Conference opener for both teams. West Valley returns to Dick Schwendinger Field for their annual derby against De Anza (4-2-1). Kickoff is 4:00pm.
