Huntington Beach, Calif. – The Golden West College baseball program continues to win in the month of May as they beat Cypress College this afternoon 3-1.
First year head coach Drew Ramos endured a tough opening month in April going 1-11 but the team has found its rhythm in May going 11-3 in the past 14 games. Ramos was incredibly open about the early offensive struggles as the key to their sluggish start. Well, the offense has been producing and the quality pitching outings have racked up. Never more so when freshman left hander Ricky Tiedemann took the mound today and threw a complete game, 13 strike-out victory to close out his final game at Golden West.
Tiedemann is highly coveted MLB prospect out of Lakewood High School and is projected as a top four round draft pick in the upcoming Major League Baseball Draft next month. The big 6'4" lefty came out dealing this afternoon striking out three Chargers in the opening frame. The offense then responded in the bottom half of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Leadoff batter Sebastian Orduno walked to open the frame and then proceeded to steal second base. Two passed balls later and Orduno scores without an offense hit.
Cypress would tie the game in the top of the third inning using a leadoff double and an RBI single to make it 1-1. The Golden West offense would lead things off in the bottom half of the third inning with a double by Zane Parmenter. The next batter, Miles Jenkins singles to left field moving runners to the corners with a lot a speed. The Cypress defense paid close attention to Jenkins before throwing a pick attempt out of play to score Parmenter and moving Jenkins into scoring position. A wild pitch would later score Jenkins from third to put the Rustlers up 3-1.
That would be all Tiedemann would need to go the distance surrendering one run on seven hits and striking out 13.
NEXT: Golden West will travel to Cypress Friday, May 28th to close out the season with a doubleheader scheduled to start at 12pm. Game two will start approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of game one.
