Falcons walk off with extra-inning comeback win over Sac City

After waiting 401 days since their last game (March 10, 2020 to be exact), the FLC softball team took the field at Falcon Diamond on Friday afternoon to open their 2021 semi-season against Sacramento City College, and came away with a satisfying 7-6, eight-inning victory over the Panthers.  The Falcons rallied from a fourth-inning 6-1 deficit with a run in the fourth, four runs in the fifth that tied the game, and the winning run on a bases-loaded single to right field in the 8th inning by AnnaMaria Corona.  The hit was Corona's fourth of the game.  Falcon freshman pitcher Jenna Kendrickafter a rocky first couple of innings, settled down to blank the Panthers over the final four innings.  Wiith the Falcons finding their hitting stroke, Kendrick kept the Panthers in check to set up the comeback win.

Freshman Olivia Dominguez started the Falcons' final rally with a leadoff walk, then immediately stole second base.  Dominguez' twin sister, Hannah Dominguez, then bunted Olivia over to third, and wound up on second base herself thanks to a Panther error.  That led to an intentioanl walk to Maddy Larson, loading the bases for cleanup hitter Lilly Alvarez.  Lilly hit a fly ball to short right field that was not deep enough to score the runner from third, but that brought up Corona, who was already 3-for-4 on the day.  The sophomore third baseman promptly smacked the first pitch she saw into deep right field for the walk-off win.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 12 noon.  Both games can be seen via live streaming on YouTube here:   https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0G3KANEUqZ0kRqiTPsKANA?app=desktop
