COD Softball scores 8 in the 5th, falls short to Bobcats, 12-9

COD (0-5) fought back in the fifth, sending 13 batters to the plate, scoring 8 runs, including a 3-run home run by Amaya Magana, but a late rally by the visitors was the difference as the Roadrunners fell to the Saddleback Bobcats of Mission Viejo (4-4), 12-9.

The Roadrunners first played against Saddleback in 1981 and have an overall record of 7-13 against the Gauchos/Bobcats and an 6-3 record at home. Sophomore right handed starting pitcher Amaya Magana (La Quinta H.S.) slugged her first home run of the season, a 3-run shot to left field, getting the Roadrunners back into the game in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore short stop Kalyn Lopez (Palm Desert H.S.) had a great night out of the leadoff spot, going 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored and freshman third baseman Kasandra Piccirilli (Palm Springs H.S.) went 1 for 4 with 2 runs batted in on the night. Freshman right handed relief pitcher Paula Martinez (Thermal Coachella Valley) tossed the final 3 and 2/3rds innings, being handed her second loss of the season.

The next contest for the Roadrunners will be at home against these same Saddleback Gauchos/Bobcats of Mission Viejo on Saturday, February 18th at 10a.
